Zed.FluentValidation.Auto is a lightweight package that enables automatic model validation in ASP.NET Core controllers using a attribute. It integrates seamlessly with FluentValidation and removes the need for repetitive ModelState.IsValid checks.

Usage

Install via NuGet:

dotnet add package Zed.FluentValidation.Auto

Register in Program.cs:

Create a validator:

How It Works

The [ValidateModel<T>] attribute is a custom model binder that:

  • Resolves the appropriate IValidator<T> from the DI container.
  • Validates the request before it reaches the action method.
  • Returns a 400 Bad Request with validation errors if the model is invalid.
  • The validator must be registered in the service container.
  • Only one validator per model type is supported.
